Dr. C. R. Prasad was born on May 20, 1966, in the village of Pallam, Kottayam district, to T. R. Ramachandran Nair and N. Lakshmikutty Amma. An esteemed academic and literary critic, he secured his M.A. in Malayalam with a rank from the University of Kerala.

He earned his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Malayalam Grammar from the University of Kerala under the supervision of Dr. N. R. Gopinatha Pillai.
